Reverse description
In Krieghoff`s day, it was not uncommon for painters to earn a living by selling professional lithographs of their best works. Lithography demanded extraordinary talent and artistry, and the print was almost as sought-after as the original from which it was made. Krieghoff produced some as early as 1848, under the patronage of the Earl of Elgin, Governor General of British North America. Indian Wigwam in Lower Canada was part of a collection of four prints entitled `Scenes of Canada`, showing subjects and landscapes around Montreal. The prints themselves were printed in Germany by the famous lithographer Andreas Borum. They were sold in monochrome or hand-colored versions.
