Andorra's diner coinage emerged in the 1980s largely as a numismatic revenue vehicle — the principality had no legal tender coinage of its own for general circulation and relied on French francs and Spanish pesetas. Joan Martí i Alanís, the Episcopal Co-Prince from 1971 to 2003, authorized these issues through the Episcopal co-princeship, one of Europe's two co-princes whose authority over Andorra derives from a feudal arrangement dating to 1278.
Sant Climent de Pal is a pre-Romanesque church in the Andorran parish of la Massana, its origins traceable to the 11th century.
