Additional information

Kuwait's Liberation Day commemorates February 26, 1991, when coalition forces expelled the Iraqi occupation that had begun with Saddam Hussein's invasion on August 2, 1990. The seven-month occupation saw the Central Bank of Kuwait's own reserves looted — an estimated $5 billion in assets seized — making a commemorative issue from that very institution carry an institutional weight that most national commemoratives lack.
