Additional information

Yugoslavia's final years as a functioning state were marked by hyperinflation, UN sanctions, and the NATO bombing campaign of 1999. By the time this coin was issued in 2000, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia comprised only Serbia and Montenegro, and the dinar had been through several redenominations in the previous decade — the 1994 redenomination alone lopped ten zeros off the currency. This 5 dinara piece belongs to a short-lived stabilization series that never outlasted the state that issued it; Yugoslavia was formally dissolved in 2003 when Serbia and Montenegro adopted a looser union under a new name.
