Obverse description The German Federal Eagle (Bundesadler) displayed facing, with wings spread and head turned to the left, rendered in finely detailed relief. The eagle stands with talons extended, its plumage rendered with precise engraving characteristic of postwar German numismatic art. The circular legend BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND runs around the periphery, flanked by a beaded inner border. The date 1951 appears in the lower portion of the field, centered beneath the eagle, flanked by small decorative stops.
