Additional information

This copper-aluminium piece is a pattern strike produced during the design selection process for the commemorative 5 Mark piece honoring the 450th anniversary of Luther's excommunication. The approved circulation issue was struck in silver-clad copper-nickel; this compositional variant never advanced beyond the trial stage.
