Obverse description The German Federal Eagle (Bundesadler), the national coat of arms, is displayed prominently in the centre of the field with wings spread and head facing right. The denomination numeral '5' appears in the lower centre beneath the eagle's tail, flanked by the date '1973' with the Karlsruhe mint mark 'G' positioned below between the date digits. The circular legend reads 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND' along the upper periphery and 'DEUTSCHE MARK' along the lower periphery, separated by dot stops.
