Obverse description The obverse features the national coat of arms of El Salvador at center, depicting five volcanic peaks rising from the sea within an equilateral triangle, surmounted by a radiant Phrygian cap and flanked by five national flags on either side. The triangle is supported by a scroll bearing the motto 'DIOS UNION LIBERTAD' and framed by two laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The date 1971 appears in the lower field below the arms. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA DE EL SALVADOR AMERICA CENTRAL' runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by the date, all within a beaded border.
