Obverse description The obverse carries a central pastoral vignette of a rural Costa Rican scene with workers and oxen hauling a cart, set against a backdrop of palm trees and fields rendered in fine intaglio. At the top, the overprinted legend reads 'BANCO NACIONAL DE COSTA RICA / CAJA DE CONVERSION' over the original 'BANCO INTERNACIONAL DE COSTA RICA' imprint, with the denomination 'CINCO COLONES' in bold letterpress at centre. Serial numbers appear in red at left and right, the date 'San José, 11 de Agosto de 1932' is printed below the central text, and two manuscript signatures of senior officials appear at the lower centre.
