The Yan'an Guanghua Shangdian — the Guanghua Trading Company — was a cooperative commercial enterprise run directly under the Chinese Communist Party's administration in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region. It issued its own fractional notes because the region operated largely outside the Nationalist financial system, and small-denomination currency was chronically scarce. These store-issued chits functioned as local scrip, accepted within the cooperative network rather than as broadly circulating banknotes.
1938 was the first full year of CCP-Nationalist cooperation under the Second United Front, yet the Border Region maintained its own parallel economic structures throughout.
