Obverse description The central field features the crowned Dutch coat of arms — a shield bearing a rampant lion holding a sword and bundle of arrows — enclosed within a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base with crossed fasces and a ribbon. The date 1851 appears in the upper legend flanked by five-pointed stars, while the alphanumeric trial inscription '6w729' is placed to the left and '0,900' to the right of the wreath, indicating the proposed silver fineness specification. The whole is encircled by a fine beaded border.

Reverse description The reverse features a plain, slightly concave field displaying the large numeral '5' in bold relief at center, with the denomination legend 'CENTS.' inscribed in serif capital letters immediately below. The design is enclosed within a prominent inner beaded circle, itself set within a plain raised rim, giving the reverse a stark and minimalist character typical of trial and pattern pieces.
