Obverse description Printed in purple ink on pale paper, the obverse carries a letterpress vignette at left of two female figures — an older woman and a younger girl — holding a flower basket, rendered in fine line engraving. To the right, the numeral "5" appears within a decorative scalloped guilloche roundel. The issuer's name "Sutton & Stewart" in large script and the denomination "FIVE CENTS" in bold display type occupy the centre, with the serial number in manuscript at upper left and a small dog's head vignette at lower centre flanking the manuscript signature of W. Weamer.
