| Additional information |
The magnetic variant of Uganda's 5 cents emerged as a quiet cost-cutting measure during a period when Idi Amin's government was burning through foreign reserves at a ruinous rate. Copper-plated steel replaced the original bronze composition, a substitution driven by economics rather than any minting philosophy. KM#1a is the catalog designation separating it from its non-magnetic predecessor.
