Military scrip issued by Fleet Reserve Club facilities at Keflavik Naval Air Station in Iceland, payable only within that establishment. The FPO designation — Fleet Post Office New York 09571 — was the standard APO/FPO routing address for U.S. naval personnel stationed in Iceland during the Cold War period, despite having no geographic connection to New York whatsoever.
Club scrip of this type was used to control on-base spending, prevent dollar outflow into the local economy, and reduce the administrative headaches of handling coin in a high-latitude posting where personnel turnover was constant. The date range spans nearly two decades of continuous U.S. naval presence at Keflavik under NATO agreements.
