Below the numeral, an ornamental ribbon or scroll device bearing the denomination inscription CENTS completes the central motif. The circular legend AU MAU KE EA O KA AINA I KA PONO — the Hawaiian national motto meaning 'The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness' — arcs around the periphery. A beaded inner border frames the entire design, consistent with the obverse treatment. |
