Obverse description Blue on light tan underprint. The face bears the Dutch-language inscription 'De Japansche Regeering' (The Japanese Government) alongside Japanese characters, with a plate letter prefix 'S'. The design is executed in a simple letterpress style with the denomination stated in both Dutch ('VIJF CENT') and Japanese script.

Reverse description Blue on light tan underprint. The ornate border consists of interlocking wave and scallop guilloche bands, with numeral '5' repeated in each corner within decorative cartouches.
