| Obverse description | Uncrowned effigy of King George VI facing left, rendered in high relief with a frosted cameo finish against a mirror-polished field. The portrait, engraved by T. Shingles and based on the original design by Humphrey Paget, depicts the King in plain attire without insignia. The circumferential legend reads GEORGIVS VI D:G: REX ET IND:IMP:, with the engraver's initials HP appearing in small letters below the truncation of the bust. A fine beaded border runs along the inner rim. |

| Reverse description | A full-bodied caribou, its head raised and antlers prominent, strides purposefully to the left across a plain ground line, faithfully reproducing Emmanuel Hahn's iconic design first introduced on the Canadian five-cent piece in 1937. Seven stars of the Big Dipper constellation are scattered across the upper field behind the animal, evoking the northern Canadian sky. The legend CANADA arcs across the upper rim, the date 2018 is inscribed vertically along the right field, and the denomination 5 CENTS appears at the base below the exergue line. The engraver's initials EH are visible in small letters to the lower right of the design. The entire reverse is struck in reverse proof finish with frosted fields and polished design elements. |
