Additional information

In 1927, the Canadian government commissioned new coinage designs to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation. The proposed 5-cent piece, never adopted, was shelved in favor of retaining the MacKennal effigy and existing reverses — the political appetite for a full redesign evaporated before any dies reached circulation. This 2017 issue restores that rejected design nearly nine decades after it was first drawn.
