Obverse lettering GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP:
(Translation: George VI, by the grace of God, the King and Emperor of India)
Reverse description The central design features a large bold letter V, symbolising both Victory and the denomination, superimposed by a flaming torch representing the Allied war effort; two maple leaves flank the base of the V. The divided date appears on either side of the V (e.g. 19 - 43), while CANADA arcs above and CENTS appears below. Encircling the design along the outer rim is the patriotic Morse code message reading .-- . .-- .. -. .-- .... . -. .-- . .-- --- .-. -.- .-- .. .-.. .-.. .. -. --. .-.. -.-- (translating as We win when we work willingly), with the engraver's initials T.S. also present. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border following the twelve-sided flan.
