Fort Crook, Nebraska housed German prisoners of war during World War II, and canteen scrip like this was a standard feature of POW camp economics across the United States — issued under the Geneva Convention's requirement that prisoners be paid for labor, with currency restricted to on-site use to prevent escape funds accumulating. The pink paper is typical of denomination differentiation within multi-value scrip sets, where color substituted for elaborate printing security.
