Additional information

Australia's 50th anniversary moon landing commemorative was part of a broader wave of issues released globally in 2019, but the Royal Australian Mint's decision to use the circulating five-cent denomination — rather than a dedicated collector format — meant these entered general commerce alongside ordinary coinage. Apollo 11 launched on July 16, 1969, with Australian tracking stations at Honeysuckle Creek and Parkes playing a direct operational role in relaying the lunar surface transmissions back to Earth.
