TUSLOG — The United States Logistics Group — operated a sprawling network of detachments across Turkey during the Cold War, and Det. 20 at Çiğli Air Base near İzmir was among the more active. These scrip notes were issued by the Officers' Club for internal use, keeping dollars out of the Turkish civilian economy as required under NATO status-of-forces agreements. The 10-cent denomination handled the small-change end of club transactions — drinks, meals, snacks — where coinage was inconvenient and hard currency was restricted.
Çiğli scrip in any denomination turns up infrequently. Most was redeemed, destroyed at the end of each scrip series cycle, or simply discarded by departing personnel.
