Additional information

The Royal Canadian Mint's premium proof program for circulating denominations has long occupied an odd niche — selling silver facsimiles of coins most Canadians barely register in daily commerce. The five-cent piece itself has been under periodic threat of elimination for years, with cost-per-unit striking well above face value in base metal; the irony of producing a fine silver version is not lost on anyone paying attention.

Charles III's effigy, sculpted by Steven Rosati, began appearing on Canadian coinage in 2023 following the King's accession — the first royal transition on the obverse in seventy years.
