Obverse description Left-facing effigy of Queen Beatrix occupies the central field, depicted with an upswept coiffure in a contemporary portrait style. The bust is set within a decorative rope-and-bead inner border characteristic of the traditional Dutch 5-cent square format. The legend KONINGIN BEATRIX curves along the upper periphery, while the date 1980 appears at the lower portion of the design.

Reverse description The full Royal Coat of Arms of the Netherlands is rendered in high relief at the center of the field, featuring the crowned escutcheon charged with the Nassau lion, supported by two rampant lions, and surmounted by a royal crown. A ribbon below the shield bears the French motto JE MAINTIENDRAI. The inner border is decorated with a row of raised beads following the square outline of the flan.
