Reverse description Central denomination expressed as a large numeral 5 over the word CENTS, both set within an open wreath of olive branches that rise from a small tied bow at the base and converge at the upper field. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed along the upper periphery within the wreath opening, and the entire design is enclosed by a fine beaded rim. The wreath's naturalistic foliage, rendered in low relief, is characteristic of Longacre's engraving style employed on mid-19th-century United States coinage patterns.
