One of hundreds of small municipal emergency notes issued across Catalonia during the Civil War, when the collapse of small coin supply forced town councils to print their own fractional currency. Vilassar de Dalt, a small municipality in the Maresme comarca north of Barcelona, issued this 5 céntimos note under the authority of its Ajuntament — by 1937 operating under Republican administration with considerable local autonomy granted by the Generalitat.
Turró's catalog documents the full municipal series; #2886 places this within a well-documented but highly localized emission whose practical circulation rarely extended beyond the town itself.
