Additional information

Torre Libre was a small agrarian collective in Teruel established during the anarchist-led social revolution that swept rural Aragon in the summer of 1936. Like dozens of similar villages absorbed into the Consejo Regional de Defensa de Aragón, the collective abolished money in principle — which makes this token's existence quietly contradictory. Local exchange certificates in cardboard were a practical concession to the persistence of trade beyond the collective's boundaries.

The unlisted Gari reference suggests this piece was either unknown or unverified at time of publication. Teruel province saw some of the war's most destructive fighting by late 1937, and the collective likely ceased to function after Franco's forces dismantled the Aragón collectives by decree in August of that year.
