Tamarite de Litera, a small agricultural town in Huesca province, was one of hundreds of Aragonese communities that issued its own emergency scrip during the anarcho-syndicalist collectivization of 1936–37. The CNT-affiliated collectives effectively abolished money in theory while creating it in practice — these local vales were the compromise, accepted within the collective's own economy but worthless outside it. The hand-stamp was the only authentication available under wartime conditions, and the quality of card stock varied wildly depending on what could be sourced.
Franquista consolidation of Aragon in mid-1938 rendered the entire issue void overnight.
