Premià de Mar is a small coastal municipality north of Barcelona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper currency when coinage effectively disappeared from circulation after 1936. The Republican government's wartime economic disruption hit small communities hard — copper and silver were hoarded or requisitioned, leaving local authorities to fill the gap with handstamped or locally printed chits.
Turró catalogs this as #2014, placing it within the well-documented Catalan municipal emergency series. Very few of these issues survived in any quantity.
