La Granada del Penedès was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued emergency fractional paper money during the summer and autumn of 1936, after the outbreak of the Civil War caused metallic coinage to vanish almost entirely from circulation. These local issues — collectively cataloged under the bitllets de necessitat — were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's broad emergency decrees, but the actual production was left entirely to individual town councils. In practice, that meant whatever printing resources and card stock were locally available.

Turró 1157 is among the smaller and more obscure municipals. No print run figures appear to have survived.
