Bellaguarda is a tiny municipality in the Garrigues comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly small Catalan and Spanish towns, it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the collapse of conventional coin circulation in 1936–37. These hyper-local issues — collectively documented by Andreu Turró — were typically produced on whatever card or heavy paper the town hall could source, often printed by local presses with no standardization of security features whatsoever.
Turró #357 is among the more obscure entries in the catalog. Survival rates for Bellaguarda issues are low simply because the town's total population and economic activity were minimal.
