Agramunt's municipal emergency notes were issued during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican government authorized local authorities to produce low-denomination scrip to replace hoarded coinage. The Ajuntament d'Agramunt contracted the local print shop of Miquel Pera — a commercial printer, not a specialist in security documents — which accounts for the rudimentary production quality common to the entire Turró-catalogued series from this town.
Lleida province issued more distinct local scrip types than almost any other region in Catalonia during 1936–1938, and Agramunt contributed several denominations to that count. Turró#12 sits at the lower end of the fractional range.
