| Reverse description | The numeral '5' above the denomination CENTIMOS is displayed prominently in the center of the coin within an open wreath of laurel branches tied at the base with a bow, the whole surrounded by a beaded border. The legend AMERICA CENTRAL curves along the upper periphery, while the mint controller's initials G.C.R. appear at the lower right, outside the wreath. | Additional information |
Costa Rica's small bronze coinage of the late 1920s was struck at the Philadelphia Mint under contract, as the country lacked domestic minting capacity. The 1929 date falls during a period of relative monetary stability before the Great Depression disrupted Central American economies and led to significant currency reforms across the region in the early 1930s.
