Obverse description A large, bold imperial cipher 'N' occupies the center of the field, rendered with a distinctive hatched diagonal stroke in the Neoclassical style. The monogram is enclosed within a raised inner circle, surrounded by a wreath of laurel or oak leaves that frames the entire design within the coin's border. The field is otherwise plain, emphasizing the monumental simplicity of the Napoleonic device. No legend appears on this face, the emperor's initial serving as the sole identifier.
