Obverse description Central round hole surrounded by the crowned royal monogram of King Léopold II in the field. A circular legend in French reads ROYAUME DE BELGIQUE, with the date below, all enclosed within a beaded border. The design is restrained and heraldic in character, with the monogram serving as the principal device.

Reverse description A decorative spray of laurel and oak leaves arches to the left of the central round hole, its stem extending along the lower portion of the field and terminating with a floral motif at the base. To the right of the hole, the denomination 5 CES is boldly rendered in large numerals and abbreviated lettering. The engraver's signature A. MICHAUX appears in small capitals along the lower rim, within a beaded border.
