| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel branch. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail characteristic of Dupuis's style. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves around the periphery, with REPUBLIQUE to the left and FRANÇAISE to the right of the bust. The matte flan surface lends a distinctive frosted appearance to the fields, typical of essai strikings. The engraver's signature DUPUIS appears discreetly at the base of the truncation. |
