| Obverse description | The obverse features a left-facing bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, rendered in low relief in the style of engraver Louis Merley. The effigy occupies the central field, with the encircling legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE running along the upper periphery. The engraver's name L.MERLEY and the date 1902 appear in the lower portion of the legend, completing the inscription around the rim. The portrait is rendered in a classical republican style consistent with Third Republic coinage aesthetics. |
