| Obverse description | The obverse features the seated Lion of Belgium in high relief, positioned facing left atop a stone tablet inscribed with 'CONSTITUTION BELGE 1831' and flanked by a small star at the base. The lion, rendered in a classically noble style, rests one forepaw on the tablet in a heraldic pose. The surrounding legend reads 'L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE' along the upper arc and 'BELGIQUE' along the lower arc, with the date '1859' below in the exergue. The design is enclosed by a finely toothed inner border. The engraving is attributed to Léopold Wiener and reflects the refined medallic craftsmanship characteristic of Belgian trial pieces of this period. |
