Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Ceres, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, wearing a wreath of leaves in her hair. The effigy is rendered in low relief in the neoclassical style characteristic of Oudiné's work. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs above the bust, while the date 1896 appears in the exergue below.
