Obverse description The field is dominated by Arabic calligraphic inscriptions arranged around a central round hole, all contained within a beaded border. The upper legend names the ruler Ahmad Muddat Bey of Tunisia, with the denomination of 5 centimes inscribed in Arabic to the right of the hole. The Hijri date 135_ appears in Eastern Arabic numerals along the lower arc, accompanied by the Latin word ESSAI denoting essay or trial status. The overall layout follows the traditional holed coinage format of the French Protectorate era, with flowing Naskh-style script filling the annular field.
