Additional information

The 1904 issue marks the centennial of Haitian independence, declared on January 1, 1804, following the only successful large-scale slave revolt in history. The date was deliberate — the entire 1904 coinage series was conceived as a commemorative statement tied to that anniversary, which is why the series breaks from earlier 19th-century Haitian issues in both composition and design.

Struck at the Paris Mint under contract, as Haiti lacked domestic minting infrastructure throughout this period.
