Obverse description The national coat of arms of Panama displayed centrally in the field, featuring the republic's heraldic shield with its customary quartered design. An arc of nine stars appears above the arms, representing the nine provinces of Panama at the time of issue. The legend REPÚBLICA DE PANAMÁ arcs along the upper rim, while the date 1982 is positioned in the lower exergual area. As a uniface piefort pattern, this side bears all the substantive design elements, struck on a planchet of approximately double the standard thickness.
