Obverse description Central device depicts the Sol de Mayo, the radiant sun of Uruguay's national arms, rendered with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a raised central boss, all set within a plain field. The circumferential legend REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin capitals, while the date, flanked by two small five-pointed stars, is positioned at the base. The entire design is bordered by a continuous raised beaded rim.
