| Obverse description | The papal coat of arms of Pius XI occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with an eagle above three roundels (bezants), flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter surmounted by the papal tiara. The date of issue is divided by the lower portion of the shield, with the year numerals appearing to either side. The circular legend around the periphery reads PIVS XI P· M· AN·XIII, identifying the pope by name and pontifical year in Latin. |
