| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of a male figure facing left, occupying the central field in low relief, with a plain truncation at the shoulder. The circular legend ESTADO L. Y S. DE OAXACA arcs around the upper periphery, flanked at the lower left and right by a small six-pointed star on each side. The date 1915 appears in the lower exergual area, completing the design. |

The State of Oaxaca issued its own coinage in 1915 under the Soberana Convención, a provisional government that rejected both Carranza's Constitutionalists and the central authority of Mexico City during the Revolution's most fragmented phase. Oaxaca's monetary autonomy was brief — the state fell back under federal control by 1916 — making the entire series a product of roughly one year of political separation.
These copper pieces were struck under improvised conditions, and die alignment inconsistencies are common across the type rather than exceptional to individual examples.
