Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an eagle displayed and perched upon a cactus, devouring a serpent, with a wreath of laurel and oak branches at the base. The circular legend ESTADO DE AGUASCALIENTES arcs around the upper periphery of the coin. The design follows the traditional republican heraldic style as adapted for the revolutionary-era emergency coinage of the State of Aguascalientes.

Reverse description The central device features a stylized monogram combining the numeral 5 and the cent symbol (¢), denoting the face value of 5 centavos. The date 1915 appears above the monogram in the upper field. A partial wreath of laurel branches frames the design on the lower portion of the field, lending a decorative border to the central denomination motif.
