Reverse description The reverse presents the denomination in three stacked lines at center — CINCO above the large numeral 5, followed by CENTAVOS DE LEMPIRA below — all set within an open wreath of stylized tropical foliage tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The branches, rendered in finely detailed relief, extend symmetrically from the lower field to frame the denomination. A continuous border of raised beads encircles the entire design, consistent with the obverse treatment.

Additional information

Honduras shifted to brass-plated steel for this denomination in 2010 primarily as a cost-cutting measure — rising global copper prices had made the older brass composition increasingly uneconomical for low-value coinage. The magnetic core allowed automated sorting and rejection systems in vending machines and transit fare equipment to distinguish the new pieces from their non-magnetic predecessors, which remained in concurrent circulation long enough to cause handling confusion at point of sale.
