Durango's revolutionary coinage of 1914 emerged from the chaos following Victoriano Huerta's coup and the near-total collapse of the federal monetary system. With Constitutionalist forces controlling much of northern Mexico and federal coin supplies cut off, individual states and military commanders issued their own emergency currency — often in whatever metal was locally available. Brass was a practical choice, not an ideological one.
KM#634 is one of several distinct Durango state issues from this period, a year when the mint at the state capital was operating under Constitutionalist authority.
