Nicaragua's 1994 coinage series followed the 1991 córdoba oro redenomination, which slashed the inflated Sandinista-era currency by a factor of five million to one. The Banco Central opted for chromium-plated steel across the low denominations as the country rebuilt its monetary infrastructure on an extremely constrained post-war budget.
