| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Honduras occupies the central field, depicting an oval escutcheon with a landscape featuring mountains, a mine entrance, and rising sun, surmounted by a Mayan pyramid and flanked by a quiver of arrows and tropical trees. The shield is encircled by an oval cartouche bearing the legend HONDURAS LIBRE SOBERANA E INDEPENDIENTE. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS arcs across the upper periphery, with the date 1994 positioned in the lower field, all within a continuous beaded border. |

KM#72.3 marks the third documented variety of this type, distinguished by its brass composition — a material shift driven by the economics of maintaining a low-denomination coin that cost nearly as much to produce in the previous alloy as it was worth to spend. Honduras adopted brass for this series in the early 1990s as chronic fiscal pressure made metal cost a genuine policy concern rather than an afterthought.
The two-year window of 1993–1994 is narrow enough to suggest the type was superseded or reformulated shortly after introduction.
